Feelings come from all different places.
Food can fulfill your feeling of hunger…it could heal the feeling of sadness…it could even provide feelings of bliss.
Food to me is all of those combined. When I correlate 'my feelings' with food, I associate it with different moments…different memories. When I seek comfort, good food always entertains me.
So when I travel to different cities and I spot that one 'to-die-for' Chinese dumplings, or that one Thai dish that I never knew existed, its a pretty great feeling. Really. I'm sure most of you guys can relate, or you have your list of favorite foods.
Korean hoddeuk dessert with brown rice and nuts, usually a street food fave and it's hard to find a place like this in the states that makes it exactly like Korea!
The machine that makes mini Korean walnut bread with red bean paste in the center, one of my favorites! On Bloor street in Toronto's Korea Town.
Thanks to Tara from Seven Spoons-a blogger that I truly admire~ Her blog is filled with amazing writing, beautiful photos, and heartfelt recipes. Hailing from Toronto, I picked her brain for some of her favorite spots. Wasn't able to go down the list completely, but the few that I did try *loved* so thank you Tara!
I was in Toronto for a short 6 days for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). I had a nice list of all these films I wanted to check out, but how did this turn out? Well, ended up planning out my meals instead. So this trip to Toronto can be summed up to just having a wide range of feelings. Food was unexpectedly great! Who would have known that Jamaican food would be pretty kick-ass here? And I had the best Korean tacos in the heart of Korea Town here. It definitely beats Los Angeles Korean tacos (might upset some readers here), and it sure beats the Korean style tacos in New York. Even the late night hot dog stands with the million condiments station hit the spot (and this is coming from a Chicago girl). I guess hot dog carts are actually a 'thing' around Toronto.
So Toronto is where it's at for some good eats. Not just great food but you'll definitely find a few dishes that will sorta blow your mind away. Toronto had a good feeling. Just go and try for yourself, and be open to having your feelings challenged :)
'Hodo Gwaja' the mini walnut breat!
Famous Bloor St-Korea Town, downtown Toronto.
Korean-Mexican spot on Bloor street-downtown Toronto.
The best Korean style taco at 'Barrio Coreano'-the shell is like a crispy tortilla (not exactly as hard as a typical hard shell taco) but when you bite into this, it's both crunchy and soft. Never had anything like this~
The ladies at 'Dumpling House'-this was our first meal. How can you pass this up when this is happening at the window front? Best Chinese dumplings. Seriously.
Spotted this at a Jamaican market.
Jerk chicken from 'Rasta Pasta' behind Korea Town.
Key lime dessert from 'Nadege'-thanks for the rec Tara from Seven Spoons!
*Smiles* at Niagara Falls! My first time. Yes, I'm probably the only Korean American that never came here before! Just ignore the blue plastic around me though. Doesn't quite go with my look, but had to wear it obviously.
